Support 30 Families of Bengal who lost everything in fire

Thirty families of Ward No. 17 – Habra, 24 Parganas (North) – West Bengal lost everything as a devastating fire broke out in the slum next to the railway line in Habra.

On 14 December 2022 (Wednesday afternoon around five o'clock), a fire broke out in the slum area behind the petrol pump of Ward No. 17 – Habra, 24 Parganas (North) – West Bengal. Thirty (33) houses next to the railway line were destroyed by the fire and were reduced to ashes in the all-consuming fire.

Train movement on the up and down line of the Bangaon-Sealdah branch stopped. Local residents also helped to put out the fire with firefighters. The rapid spread of the fire created panic among the locals. Besides, the movement of trains on the Sealdah-Bangaon branch has also been stopped due to this fire, and passengers returning from the office have suffered because of it. No one could sleep in the relief camp at night as household items, clothes, kitchen utensils, and important documents were burnt to ashes. Therefore, from Thursday morning, many residents were seen standing in the ruins of the fire and crying.

Everyone is worried about house belongings, important documents like Voter cards, PAN, Aadhaar cards, and bank passbooks burnt to ashes. 125 people have taken shelter in the relief camp. Social worker Rupesh Sarkar and his team rushed to the place, involved with the emergency services. Multiple meetings were conducted with the victims’ families as govt. help couldn’t able to compensate for the loss.

The following items are asked by the victims’ families (Thirty-three families).

1. One wooden bed and bedding set per family

2. One set of kitchen utensils per family

3. One set of LED lights and ceiling fan per family

4. Five (05) sewing machines (Empowerment program)

5. Five (05) cycle van (Empowerment program)

6. Three (03) electric/carpentry toolkit sets (Empowerment program)

7. One set of dress material per family
